My YouTube Channel: The Fashion Run-Up

December 6, 2018

A little background on me. I am a fashion designer, and am specialized in knitwear design. Knitwear design is mostly associated with sweaters but knitwear means any garment made out of knitted fabric. This includes tops, pants, jackets, dresses, and accessories.

I went to The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and have about 10 years of industry experience.

Over the past 10 years, I have worked for companies in New York City, and Shanghai China, and have worked on my own brand and business.

I currently develop knit fabrics and garments on my own. Just pushing the boundaries of what is possible with knit fabric.

I originally used my YouTube channel as a tool to present my eponymous brand, Emily Keller Reversible. In 2013, while living in Shanghai, I started designing my own knitwear collections where every garment was reversible. YouTube was a way to share concept videos, photo shoots, fashion shows, interviews, and vlogs.

My fashion line is not in production anymore, as I found the traditional way to run a fashion business outdated and too risky. I have spent the last few years thinking of other ways to structure the business. And the best solution I came up with was essentially, made-to-order. More on that in another post.

My YouTube channel has come a long way. Once I decided to stop focusing on my business, I morphed my YouTube channel into a place where I talk about whatever I feel like talking about, related to fashion.

I review fashion-related movies.

I review fashion or style books.

I talk about anything fashion design related.

I talk about style.

I talk about fashion designer culture.

I have fashion conversations with fashion industry friends.

I talk about knitwear.

And, I show my personal design development.

My YouTube channel is now called The Fashion Run-Up. I didn’t want to focus on things that already happened in fashion, like the news. I wanted to focus on the future of fashion and where it’s going.

run-up   -   rə ˌnəp/   -   noun        The period preceding a notable event.

In this case, the notable event, as a whole, is the future of fashion.

It has been a great experience building a community of people interested in fashion design. Talking about the industry has been more of a two-way conversation, compared to my fashion brand content, which didn’t produce nearly as much engagement.

I will continue to share my fashion design experience and knowledge with my viewers, and I look forward to building a community of fashion design enthusiasts :)

Let me know what you would like me to talk about on my YouTube channel. What are your questions? What conversations do you think are missing in fashion design? Let me know in the comments below.

Check out my latest video below, and subscribe to my channel so we can keep in touch :)
